About this trip

NEW TOUR   South Coast Rail and Sail Tour

Mystic Seaport, Newport, Cape Cod, Essex Train and more!

June 23-27, 2024

You will start your tour at “MYSTIC SEAPORT -- The Museum of America and the Sea -- is the nation's leading maritime museum. Explore American maritime history first-hand as you climb aboard historic tall ships, stroll through a recreated 19th-century coastal village or watch a working preservation shipyard in action. Founded in 1929, more than 300,000 people continue to visit Mystic Seaport annually.” You will then travel to New Port, Rhode Island. Dinner will be enjoyed at a local restaurant after checking in to your hotel. The following day enjoy a NEWPORT MANSIONS DRIVING TOUR of TEN MILE OCEAN DRIVE and along the sea where the most famous

of the “American Aristocracy” had built their splendid summer palaces.

You will also enjoy a tour of the MARBLE HOUSE.. LUNCH on your own today in Newport. Your guide will help you with suggestions. Afterwards “walk it off along Bowen’s and Bannister’s Whar ves where you'll find historic cobblestone paths lined with a mix of local

boutiques, exquisite galleries, eclectic artisans, award-winning

restaurants and more, all set on the waterfront in the heart of

downtown” Later you will enjoy a Self-guided tour of the BREAKERS MANSION. Home of President and Chairman of New York Central Railroad Cornelius Vanderbilt II. End your evening with the GRAND BELLVUE DINNER TRAIN. Step aboard the Grand Bellevue

and create a memorable evening at our gourmet restaurant on the rails. On

your relaxed two-and-one-half-hour journey our highly skilled wait team

and culinary staff will recreate the glory days of sophisticated rail travel,

preparing and serving a full-course meal while you relax and sip choice

wines and craft cocktails. As you dine you will look out on sweeping views of Narragansett Bay, the

Mount Hope Bridge, and all the natural beauty Aquidneck Island has to

offer. After breakfast head to Cape Cod for a TOUR of HYANNIS including the John F. Kennedy Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and a view of St. Francis Xavier Church, the summer parish of the Kennedy Family. LUNCH on own today in Hyannis. Your guide will help you with suggestions. Visit the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum to learn about the legacy of President Kennedy and his deep connection to Cape Cod where he enjoyed special days with family and friends. In the afternoon you will enjoy the HYANNIS HARBOR CRUISE. “The best way to see the memorable sights and beauty of Hyannis is by the sea. Relax and enjoy the views as your guide explains the various points of interest you see along the way. It’s a fascinating (and sometimes comical) history that includes aspects of our maritime industry, the people who established our waterfront community, and some of the area’s most interesting sights.” Your evening will end with a Lobster dinner. (other options available) The following morning you will travel historic ROUTE 6A, the Old King’s Highway, a scenic byway winding through centuries of Cape Cod history. View a windmill, a Cape Cod Lighthouse and visit the CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE VISITOR’S CENTER. LUNCH on own today in Provincetown.. This afternoon you may choose to board an excursion vessel for an amazing experience of WHALE WATCHING (3 hours) OR YOU MAY CHOOSE TO STAY ON DRY LAND for a DUNE TOUR excursion. End your day with a dinner before heading back to the hotel.  Your last day, experience the “ESSEX STEAM TRAIN AND RIVERBOAT. 2 1/2-hour train and riverboat…begins at the historic 1892 Essex Station for a 12-mile, narrated round-trip into the heart of the unspoiled Connecticut River Valley. A natural highlight is the undeveloped Selden Neck State Park, accessible only by boat. Essex Steam Train offers unique access to several coves and preserves, immersing passengers in an on-board eco-excursion. The train travels near the tidal wetlands of Pratt Cove and Chester Creek — bountiful, natural habitats for birds including Cormorants, Ducks, Swans, Greenland Geese, Blue Heron, Egrets, and Red-winged Blackbirds. The deep water, coves, inlets, marshes, wildlife, and rocky shoreline are, all at once, simply breathtaking! Just as impressive are the historic sites, including Gillette Castle, Goodspeed Opera House and the Haddam Swing Bridge. Upon Becky‘s return to Deep River Landing, the steam train welcomes passengers for the return trip back to Essex Station.” BOX LUNCH included on the boat.

Package includes, 4 hotel nights, 4 dinners, 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch, tours, admissions, guides, driver’s gratuity and trip leader.
